Protea - South Africa's National flowerKirstenbosch - "The Most Beautiful Garden in Africa". The garden is located at the foot of Table Mountain and there are about 9,000 of South Africa's 22,000 plant species to be found here. The garden is famous for its many Protea species. The Protea is South Africa's national flower. In the beautiful garden is a lot of domestic, more or less rare plants and even birds.

Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens was originally created by Cecil Rhodes in 1895. In this magnificent park on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, 4,000 native plant species are displayed, especially the flowering bushes that goes under the name fynbos - protease, Erica, Restios and Disas. Many of those named by the Swedish Linnaeus disciples Sparrman and Thunberg who was in the Cape Province in the late 1700s.
